StatementMany of my pieces are made out of found, discarded, or garage sale bought books. I am
fascinated in their simple beauty, the hardbound cloth covers, the glued and stitched spines,
and the inside covers, and end papers which usually contain written words and scrawls from
the previous owners through the years. I enjoy drawing, painting, and printing on the covers
and inside pages. A book is a wonderful object: rectangles made of paper, cardboard, cloth,
and glue; pages filled with type and words, drawings and illustrations. Working on books, found
pieces of paper, signage, and packaging materials provides me with a surface that contains a
history and a surface that I find very interesting. The pieces explore how materials and imagery
affect or create meaning.
